The Production Planning Report is used to calculate or estimate which items need to be produced, based on the current inventory, open sales orders, open purchase orders, planned transfers, work orders, the minimum and maximum inventory, and the minimum and maximum production lot size for the item. The report is very similar to the Planning Report, except that it includes the items on open planned transfers, the minimum and maximum inventory, and minimum and maximum production lot size for the item in the "action required" calculations.
Only items with "action required" are included on the report. The report looks to current on-hand inventory balances for the item, less demand for the item from open sales orders, planned transfers and work orders (raw material item). It also includes the balance due from open purchase orders, planned transfers, and work orders (finished goods produced) to calculate the available inventory for the item.
The available inventory balance is compared to minimum/maximum levels defined for the item. If the available balance is between the minimum/maximum levels no action is required for the item.
If the available balance is less than minimum inventory, the balance is “short”. More inventory needs to be produced to meet the minimum level. The action required will be calculated as the minimum inventory level minus the available balance. The "short" inventory will show as a positive number on the report.
If the available balance is greater than maximum inventory level for the item, the balance is “over”. The action required will be calculated as the available balance less the maximum inventory level resulting in a negative action required.
The items and current on-hand inventory to include on the report are controlled by selecting one or more departments and locations. The report provides options regarding which calculations and transactions to include the report. The shortages, overages, and/or production requests calculation can be included on the report. The report can print the summary or detail of the sales orders with or without text. Detailed production requests and planned transfer information can also be included.
